THE DAY BEFORE YESTERDAY
(sequel to The Masada Faktor)
~INTRODUCTION~
Choosing the correct genre for a book is an important task. Noir is defined in one way as a category of crime literature featuring tough, cynical and tough characters in bleak settings.
The Day Before Yesterday is noir because the horrific Nazi Holocaust of World War II of six million Jews and millions of other targeted people, is extensively considered the crime of the 20th century. Both the nature of that crime, and the scope of its impact, is an evil shadow on the world.
My protagonist, Natasha Bernard, has a cynical and tough personality, the result of her childhood trauma. She is the damaged daughter of a Holocaust survivor mother. The imminent repeat of future Holocausts drives both author and protagonist in their lives. My goal is to educate, to prevent more horror.
When I began writing this noir, sequel to The Masada Faktor, the massacre in Israel on October 7, 2023, had not occurred. Completion of this psychological thriller came after that watershed date and affected my search for a literary agent. Reports of boycotts in the publishing world of Jewish authors and any Israeli content were echoed in online and mainstream news. Still, I struggled for close to a year to find a mainstream avenue to publish this book. Even Jewish and Israeli literary agents refused to consider my work. Selling books is a business, they protested, no publisher would be able to sell this. Therefore, I have once again self-published, adding this book to my legacy.
As a child of the Holocaust, I proudly present The Day Before Yesterday.
